On January 30, 2010 the Symposium, “The Physician as Solution” took place at the IBM Conference Center in Palisades, New York. The discussions, led by Professor Alain Enthoven and Dr. Taylor Dickinson, explored the causes of the dysfunction in healthcare and considered the role physicians should play as the healthcare system evolves.

It is in the professions best interest to assume leadership in revitalizing the delivery of healthcare. This goal is best achieved if physicians develop full-risk assuming integrated health systems. Such an endeavor will require careful organization and planning. The first step is to develop a framework for communication and cooperation that will promote this goal. To involve other interested groups in the project it was decided to create an internet community to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences as physicians work toward a more cohesive delivery system. The conference participants will continue their discussions and involve other interested groups in the project. Proceedings of the symposium will be published in the AMGA journal.
